PH Embassy Joins the 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration
ROME 04 March 2024 –The Philippine Embassy in Rome kicked off its celebration of National Women’s Month (NWM) with an address on 04 March 2024 by Ambassador Neal Imperial to all Embassy clients and personnel on the significance of the celebration during the flag raising ceremony at the Embassy’s Social Hall.
Ambassador Imperial informed the Filipino community of the programs through which the Embassy supports gender equality and women empowerment, including among others, its information dissemination campaign on promoting the rights of women.
On 29 February 2024, a lecture on Magna Carta of Women was held for the Embassy’s clients who took their oaths to retain or reacquire their Philippine citizenship. Similar lectures will be held throughout the month of March, including seminars for women to be organized by the Embassy in partnership with its partner agencies such as the Migrant Workers Office in Rome (MWO-Rome) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Rome (OWWA-Rome).
The Embassy’s consular section opened a courtesy lane called “Serbisyo para kay Juana” exclusively for its women clients and distributed to Filipino clients flyers containing information on 1522, Italy’s gender-based violence and stalking hotline as well as brochures containing information on Republic Act 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women. The Embassy lighted its clock tower purple and its personnel have been wearing purple every Friday to symbolize support to the NWMC’s cause.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Imperial reminded the Filipino community that while the Philippines ranks high among countries with gender equality, the fight to advance women’s rights and end violence against women still continues. He encouraged Filipinos in Italy to report any gender-based violence to the Embassy’s Violence against Women (VAW) desk aside from calling Italy’s 1522.
Ambassador Imperial remarked.
