The Philippines marked its 10th year of participation at the prestigious La Biennale di Venezia with the unveiling of the exhibition “Sa Kabila ng Tabing Lamang ng Panahong Ito (Waiting Just Behind the Curtain of this Age).”
Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, the guest of honor for the opening ceremony, expressed profound joy at witnessing the realization of a cherished vision, highlighting the significance of Mount Banahaw as a cultural and spiritual sanctuary.
In her remarks at the opening ceremony on Thursday, 18 April 2024, Senator Legarda also emphasized the mountain's designation as a protected area and its role as a sanctuary for both nature and culture.
Through the masterful curation of Carlos Quijon Jr., the exhibition showcases the works of Filipino artist Mark Salvatus, which explore themes of life force and mysticism inspired by Mount Banahaw and its surrounding community.
At the heart of the exhibition lies a newly commissioned single-channel video delving into Mount Banahaw's profound influence on Lucban's musical traditions, complemented by captivating fiberglass rock sculptures.
This immersive experience invites visitors to delve into the intricate interplay between nature, spirituality, and artistic expression, celebrating the enduring spirit of Mount Banahaw and the creativity of the Filipino people.
Senator Legarda's remarks also highlighted the importance of reflecting on our interconnectedness with the natural world. She emphasized our role as stewards entrusted with the preservation of our planet's sacred landscapes.
The exhibition is envisioned as a catalyst for dialogue and inspiration, fostering a renewed appreciation for the bond between humanity and the environment.
The presence of Chairman Victorino Manalo of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), who heads the Philippine Pavilion, also underscored the significance of this occasion for Philippine art and culture on the global stage.
The Philippine Pavilion welcomes visitors to explore the exhibition from 20 April to 24 November 2024, inviting dialogue, reflection, and inspiration on humanity's relationship with the environment.
This sustained Philippine participation in the Venice Biennale is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Senator Legarda, the NCCA, and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in promoting Philippine art and culture on the global stage.

60th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition

The Philippine Embassy in Rome, headed by Ambassador Neal Imperial, hosted the Regional Consultation Meeting (RCM) of Philippine Ambassadors assigned to Philippine diplomatic posts in Europe from 17 to 18 March 2024. This is a regular meeting convened by the Office of European Affairs of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), with the support of the DFA-Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office, which serves as a venue for exchanges on political and economic developments in the region.

Officials from the DFA, led by Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, high-level representatives from relevant Philippine government agencies, and twenty (20) Philippine ambassadors to European countries participated in the program.
