Filipinos in Lecce, Italy Welcome First Consular Services
Rome, 6 August 2018 -- Filipinos in the province of Lecce in southern Italy welcomed the first ever consular outreach services held by the Philippine Embassy in Rome for the the Filipino community in the area on 4-5 August 2018.
“I have spent almost 30 years working in Lecce and this is the first time that we have been officially visited by a team from the Philippine Embassy in Rome,” a grateful Rolan Atienza, in his 50s, uttered as he led a group of Filipino well-wishers in welcoming the arrival of a consular team.
Lecce, capital city of its province and namesake Lecce, is home to almost a thousand Filipinos, many of whom are migrant workers from the provinces of Batangas and Laguna in southern Luzon.
It takes seven (7) hours to travel by land to reach Lecce from Rome.
The consular team completed a total of 698 service transactions, of which 334 were related to passports, notarial services and civil registration, 137 were related to voter registration, and 134 were membership applications in the Overseas Workers Welfare Fund.
There were also 78 applications for the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-Ibig).
A total of 246 passport applications have been completed by the consular outreach team in Lecce.

Consular staff, Ms. Ellen Joy France, addresses queries concerning requirements for notarial services. The consular team has completed 88 services related to civil registration and legalization of documents.
