Nolasco highlights the importance of advocating for the rights of people with disabilities (PWDs) to the Filipino community members during the commemoration of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (17-23 July 2018)
16 July 2018, ROME – The Philippine Embassy in Italy commemorated with Filipino community members in Rome the beginning of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week (17-23 July 2018) at the Embassy's consular area.
Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco gave short remarks on the importance of raising awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and integrating them in society and at the work place.
Focusing on this year's theme, "Kakayahan at Kasanayan para sa Kabuhayan tungo sa Kaunlaran,” the Ambassador shared that the Department of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies have been actively hiring PWDs to work in their offices. Ambassador Nolasco also added that the Embassy enhances its services by providing a special lane to give priority to PWDs.
Ambassador Nolasco encouraged overseas Filipinos present in Italy to contribute in improving the conditions of PWDs. He also noted that the NDPR Week ends on 23 July, the birth date of Apolinario Mabini who, despite having physical disability, was considered as the “Brains of the Revolution” and was the first Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Following the Ambassador’s remarks, personnel of the Embassy and partner agencies POLO, OWWA, SSS, and Pag-IBIG, together with Filipino community members, recited the Panata ng isang Tagapagtaguyod ng Karapatan at Pribilehiyo ng mga Maykapansanan. END
