discusses historical inks between Philippines and Italy

5 July 2018, ROME – Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco visited the Central State Archives in Rome on 04 July 2018 and met with its superintendent, Eugenio Lo Sardo to discuss historical links between the Philippines and Italy.

The Central State Archives is the primary depositary institute of Italian state documents and a main center of research for contemporary Italian history. It holds official and historical documents of the Italian Republic.

During their meeting, Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the importance of visiting the Central State Archives given that the Philippines and Italy just recently celebrated the 70th anniversary of Philippine-Italian relations in 2017. He added that with over 170,000 Filipinos working and establishing families in Italy, the Filipino community in the country is an integral part of Italy’s history.

Prof. Lo Sardo showed Ambassador Nolasco the original copy of the law that confirms the treaty signed in 9 July 1947 that established Philippines-Italy diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Nolasco also conveyed to Prof. Lo Sardo that the Central State Archives of Rome would be an excellent place for Filipino researchers interested in the history of Philippine-Italian bilateral relations. END
