Ambassador Domingo P. 13 June 2018, ROME - The Philippine Embassy in Rome celebrated with Filipino fiestas with the Filipino community and diplomatic corps as its commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

Starting Sunday, June 10, the Embassy joined the Filipino community organizations and members at the Sala Olimpia of the Ergife Palace Hotel in Rome to commemorate Independence Day.

The event simulated a Filipino barrio fiesta with Filipino communities from different parts of Italy exhibited Filipino culture, performed traditional dances and music, and served Filipino food throughout the event.

During the event, Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco, addressing the Filipino community, conveyed that Independence Day is a reminder of the value of the sacrifices and efforts made by the Philippines' heroes, encouraging all Filipinos to continue working for a prosperous future for the nation.

The event was organized by the Philippine Independence Day Association (PIDA) and supported by the Embassy. The Philippine Embassy also put up a booth to promote Philippine tourism and culture.

On Independence Day, June 12, the Embassy hosted a diplomatic reception for Italian officials, the diplomatic corps, the private sector and the academia.

With a Filipino fiesta theme, the event was an opportunity to feature Filipino culture, food and drinks, including Red Horse beer. The venue was adorned with kiping (edible decorations made with rice flour), indigenous weaves, and other native products. Colorful Filipino fans made from anahaw were distributed to the guests as mementos.

In his remarks at the diplomatic reception, Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the growing relations between the Philippines and Italy and thanked the Italian government for its support in the integration of the Filipino community in Italy, which is one of the largest in Europe. He also thanked the Embassy's partners for the mutual support and hoped for continued cooperation and stronger relations in the future. END
