The Ambassadors of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) discuss with Naples Mayor Luigi de Magistris ways on how to strengthen relations between ASEAN and Italy during the ACR Working Mission in Naples on 05 April 2018.
06 April 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Rome joined in the working mission of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) to Naples on 05 April 2018. Ambassadors from Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and the Chargé d’Affaires of Malaysia participated in the mission. The mission was organized by the current ACR Chair, Indonesian Ambassador Esti Andayani.
The group met with Naples Mayor Luigi de Magistris, Naples Chamber of Commerce President Girolamo Pettrone, Naples Port Authority President Pietro Spirito, Commander of the Port of Naples Rear Admiral Arturo Faraone and Apple Developer Academy Director Giorgio Ventre of the University Federico II.
Ambassador Domingo P. Nolasco, together with the ACR Ambassadors, conveyed to Naples officials that the member countries of the Committee are ready to discuss areas of cooperation between ASEAN and Italy particularly with the city of Naples. The ASEAN Ambassadors underscored the huge opportunities in the ASEAN region citing its almost 630 million population and its total GDP amounting to US$ 2.3 billion.
In the meeting with Mayor De Magistris, Ambassador Nolasco expressed his appreciation to the city’s warm hospitality to the Filipinos living and working in Naples. He also sought the Mayor’s continued support to the annual consular missions conducted in the city. He mentioned that people-to-people exchanges should be further strengthened.
The Committee undertakes regular working missions to different regions in Italy to increase awareness and visibility of ASEAN in Italy, to promote economic opportunities between ASEAN and Italian institutions and to create networks with local authorities.
