27 October 2017 ROME — A delegation from the Philippine Embassy in Rome led by Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco received a briefing on national emergency response from the Department of Civil Protection (CPD) of Italy on October 20, as part of the Philippine Embassy’s effort at enhancing cooperation with Italian authorities in dealing with a crisis situation.

Mr. Giovanni De Siervo, Head of the CPD, and Ms. Nadia Khdaidi of the CPD’s International Relations Unit, provided the briefing on the structure, operations, and services of the CPD. They also gave the Philippine Embassy delegation a visit to the situation room, emergency room, operations room and the situation rooms maintained by the Coast Guard and the combined air operations unit of Italy.

Home to 167,358 Filipinos, Italy is facing risks of seismic and volcanic origin as well as other environment-related risks such as fires and floods.

The CPD coordinates Italy’s response to an emergency situation and reports directly to the Office of the Prime Minister. END
