11 October 2017 ROME – The Philippine Embassy in Rome, which covers Malta, engaged overseas Filipinos in the country to listen to issues that are important to the Filipino community. Rome Philippine Embassy officials met with Filipinos in Malta at the Millenium Chapel in St. Julian’s, Malta on October 06.

Philippine Non-Resident Ambassador to Malta Domingo Nolasco and other Embassy officials, including the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) – Rome discussed concerns on workers’ rights, deployment, consular matters, and current developments in Malta.

Ambassador Nolasco shared with the Filipino community that Embassy officials have been meeting Maltese officials as part of the Embassy's advocacy to promote the rights and welfare of OFWs. He conveyed to them that the Maltese government has a high regard for overseas Filipinos workers (OFWs).

The Ambassador also informed the community that with the growing economy of Malta, the Philippine Embassy expects the influx of foreign workers, including Filipinos, into Malta. As such, the Philippine Embassy in Rome will further strengthen its coordination with the government of Malta to ensure the deployment of OFWs to the country is consistent with Philippine laws and other relevant labor migration policies.

There is an estimated 3,000 Filipinos in Malta. The Philippine Embassy in Rome regularly travels to Malta to conduct consular missions to service Filipinos in that archipelagic country. END
