10 October 2017 ROME – Philippine Ambassador Domingo Nolasco met with Malta Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Minister Carmelo Abela at Hilton Hotel in Malta, at the sidelines of the Ocean Conference 2017 on October 05, to discuss how to increase the bilateral engagement between the Philippines and Malta.
The two officials agreed to enhancing economic cooperation between the Philippines and Malta. Ambassador Nolasco, who is based in Rome and the non-resident ambassador to Malta, said that Maltese investors should look into the Philippines as an investment destination.
Ambassador Nolasco said that the Philippine Embassy in Rome is ready to link Maltese businesses with Filipino corporations. Minister Abela, who is also in charge of Maltese foreign trade promotion, said that the Ministry will be ready to explore commercial opportunities between Philippine and Maltese businesses.
During the meeting, the Ambassador also promoted the Philippine business process outsourcing sector, which could service the Maltese services industry, especially its finance and online gaming sectors.
Ambassador Nolasco and Minister Abela also discussed labor cooperation between the Philippines and Malta. The two agreed to look into ways on doing more in Philippine-Malta bilateral labor relations to ensure that rights of overseas Filipinos are protected and that deployment is in accordance with the two countries migration and labor policies.
