Filipino workers wait for their names or priority numbers to be called to avail themselves of the consular services from August 05 to 06 in Cagliari. Out of the 734 services completed by the consular outreach team sent by the Philippine Embassy in Rome, 270 were related to applications for renewal of passports.
09 August 2017 ROME – Philippine Honorary Consul Danilo Cannas of Cagliari informed the Philippine Embassy in Rome that at least six online news publications in Cagliari cited the local Filipino community for its clean-up of a public plaza named after Italy’s famous military general and nationalist, Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Consul Cannas stated in his report to Philippine Ambassador to Italy, Domingo P. Nolasco, that that the online news publications described the Filipino community action to clean Piazza Garibaldi and restore it to its original beauty as a “high sense of civic duty” from an expatriate community.
“We are so proud of our (Filipino) nationals who, with a high sense of civic duty, contribute to the spread of Filipino values and get appreciated all over the world,” explained Consul Cannas. “The mayor of Cagliari is also proud of the great work we do daily to help the Filipino community grow.”
Consul Cannas also said that he felt fortunate to have about 15 Filipino volunteers taking turns in providing administrative support services to the consulate and in coordinating community help to Filipino individuals in dire need of assistance.
He credited the Filipino sense of volunteerism for making his consular work gratifying.
Data released by the Ministry of Interior of Italy shows that the Filipino community in Cagliari has breached the 1,500 mark, compared with a just few hundred Filipino workers ten (10) years ago. They are mostly engaged in family services.
On August 05, Consul Cannas welcomed the consular outreach team of the Philippine Embassy in Rome led Consul General Adrian Bernie Candolada. The two-day consular outreach rendered a total of 734 services, 270 of which were related to applications for renewal of passports and 144 were applications for registration as overseas voters.
