08 June 2017 ROME - The Philippine Embassy in Rome celebrated “Migrant Workers Day” today, 7 June 2017, by renewing its commitment to continue working for the interests of Filipino workers in Italy.
The celebration commenced with a flag raising ceremony with Filipino workers who availed of consular services, after which the participants listened to the messages of Ambassador Domingo P. Nolasco, Philippine Ambassador to Italy, and Secretary Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Rome, which initiated the event, also distributed token gifts to Filipino workers in appreciation of their contribution to Philippine society. Filipino breakfast was served after the flag raising ceremony.
Ambassador Nolasco, in his remarks, assured Filipino workers in Italy of the commitment of the Philippine Embassy to improve further its services across the board consistent with the foreign policy objectives of the Philippine government. He also reminded all Embassy personnel of their mandate to promote and protect the welfare of Filipino migrant workers.
In his message delivered by Labor Attache Haney Lynn Gerona Siclot, Labor Secretary Bello acknowledged the sacrifices and heroism of Filipino migrant workers and highlighted new initiatives under the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to address the concerns of Overseas Filipino Workers such as the establishment of One-Stop-Service Centers which is now being implemented throughout the country.
