Bonifacioday2014

On 27 November 2014, the Philippine Embassy, together with members of the Filipino community at its Consular/POLO section, commemorated the 151st Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio.

The commemoration of Bonifacio’s birth anniversary commenced with the singing of Lupang Hinirang.

Minister and Consul General Leila Lora-Santos, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., provided inspiration to the Filipino community with a heart-warming message. In her remarks, Consul General Lora-Santos recalled the life and contribution of Andres Bonifacio in achieving the Philippine independence. She highlighted that Bonifacio, despite being of modest means and an orphan at age 14, worked hard and with dedication not only for himself, for his family but, importantly, for the country.

She called on the members of the Filipino community to always appreciate the sacrifices made by Gat Bonifacio and other heroes, and encouraged all Filipinos to contribute, in their own capacity and wherever may be, to the continued development of the Philippines.

The Embassy Officers and Staff and members of the Filipino community shared a simple salu-salo after the program.

The Filipino community, who are usually occupied with their daily lives, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to commemorate the Supremo of the Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (Katipunan).
