During the official press launch of L’Isola del Cinema 2.0 on 25 June, its Artistic Director, Mr. Giorgio Ginori, said that the L’Isola del Cinema is a project that began in 1995, the year of the Centenary of Cinema, with the dream of transforming l'Isola Tiberina (that the ancient Romans called "Insula Romae") to a Living Room Cinema and Culture. Rome welcomed countries from all over the world, thereby promoting an intercultural exchange.
Since then, more than one hundred countries have already joined the yearly film festival, and this year, together with the Philippines, countries like Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Catalonia, Ecuador, Japan, Israel, Norway, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Venezuela, will also be participating in the L’Isola del Cinema XX edition.

Isola Tiberina is located at Piazza San Bartolomeo All’Isola. There are four areas in which the films will be shown: the Sala Arena (with the big screen which can accommodate 500 people) the Sala Cinema Groupama (an indoor area), the Schermo Tevere (an open-air structure), and the Sala dell’Assunta (located within the Fatebenefratelli Hospital).
