22 July 2024, ROME – The Philippine Embassy and Migrant Workers Office in Rome (MWO-Rome) conducted a Financial Literacy Seminar for overseas Filipinos in Malta in partnership with FRICH Revolution on 20 July 2024. The seminar was held at the Catholic Institute in Floriana, Malta and was attended by 160 participants - 90 females and 70 males with ages ranging from 25-50 years old.
Welfare Officer Norlita Lugtu and Assistant Labor Attaché Rosemarie Luntao, together with Mr. Albert Yalung of FRICH Revolution, provided money-saving tips and investment ideas for the participants so that they would better manage their income abroad. Welfare Officer Lugtu reminded the Filipino community to highly value their hard-earned money, spend it wisely on investment opportunities, and save for the future.
Consul General Randy B. Arquiza who also headed the consular outreach held simultaneously with the seminar, encouraged the participants to be financially stable, saying, “What matters is not how much you earn but how you manage your money”.
This is the second financial literacy seminar under the “Moneygurado series” conducted by the Embassy. The first one was held on 12 October 2023 in Rome, Italy in partnership with the Landbank of the Philippines and Overseas Filipino Bank as part of the Embassy’s efforts to contribute to the attainment of an inclusive innovative and healthy Philippine financial sector as outlined in Chapter 11 of the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 as well as the Embassy’s gender and development program.
Malta is home to a rapidly growing community of overseas Filipinos, estimated to number about 12,000.
