23 May 2024 - In line with its mandate to promote Philippine values, history, and culture with the Italian people in order to encourage deeper cultural exchanges between the Philippine and Italy, the Philippine Embassy in Rome participated for the sixth consecutive year in Global Action’s Diplomacy Education project that seeks to connect students to the diplomatic community in Rome through its Mentorship program and its Global Action Model United Nations (GAMUN) program.

The Philippine Embassy hosted around 20 high school students from its partner school, the Instituto d’Istruzione Margherita Hack in Merlupo for the Mentorship program.  During the Mentorship program, Ambassador Neal Imperial and the officers of the Embassy prepared the students for their participation in the GAMUN by briefing them on Philippine values, history, culture, interests and positions on different world issues.

On Monday, the Philippine Embassy attended the Closing Ceremony of the 7th Edition of the Global Action Model United Nations (GAMUN) 2024 held at the headquarters of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).  The Closing Ceremony marks the end of phase 2 of the program.

Minister Donna Celeste Feliciano-Gatmaytan represented the Philippine Embassy at the GAMUN closing ceremony.  In her remarks, she thanked Global Action Italy for organizing the mentorship program and for providing the opportunity for the diplomatic community to engage with the youth of Italy, as well as for empowering the students by providing them with the tools and confidence to lead meaningful discussions on global issues.

She also thanked the students for their active participation in the Diplomacy program and encouraged them to use the skills they learned during the program to actively seek solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.  Paraphrasing the words of Dr. Jose Rizal, she reminded the youth of Italy: “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng mundo” “La giuventu e la speranza del mondo”.   END.
