3rd edition of the Filipino Film Festival in Rome
Celebrates 75 years of Philippines-Italy relations
01 September 2022, ROME – To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the formal establishment of Philippines-Italy diplomatic relations, the Philippine Embassy in Rome and Sentro Rizal Rome, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), will host the 3ª Edizione del Festival del Cinema Filippino in Italia on 10-11 September 2022 at Casa del Cinema in Villa Borghese.
The Philippine Film Festival, previously held in 2018 and 2019, is the first Filipino film festival in Rome directly organized by the Philippine government, aiming to promote cultural understanding and stronger people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Italy. This is a part of the series of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations, with the theme “Philippines-Italy: Rising Together.”
The festival will present five films over two days, which includes the critically-acclaimed A is for Agustin by Grace Simbulan and Rainbow's Sunset by Joel Lamangan, which participated in the 2021 Far East Film Festival in Udine. It will also feature LSS (Last Song Syndrome) by Jade Castro, the most awarded entry of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Festival of Filipino Films) 2019 garnering five awards, including Best Theme Song for Ben&Ben’s Araw-Araw, Best Sound Design, Audience Choice Award, Best Supporting Actress (for Tuesday Vargas) and Special Jury Prize.
Other films to be shown are The Headhunter's Daughter by Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan, 2022 Sundance Film Festival’s Short Film Grand Jury Prize winner, and Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss by Sonny Calvento, winner of Audience Choice Award in the QCinema International Film Festival 2019.
