Philippine Embassy, Rome,15 February 2022. - On 15 February 2022, a distressed overseas Filipina worker who has not returned to the Philippines for over 20 years since her arrival in Italy and who has been diagnosed with a medical condition, has finally reunited with her family in the Philippines.
From the facility where she is staying in Prato, she was fetched on Saturday by the Philippine Embassy’s Assistance-to-Nationals Team who brought her to Rome where she was billeted in a hotel overnight in preparation for her long flight home to Manila via Dubai.
She departed Rome on 13 February 2022 and arrived in Manila on 14 February 2022. She was assisted by the personnel of the Overseas Workers Welfare Authority (OWWA) in taking a domestic flight from Manila to Tuguegarao where her sister was waiting to meet her. They were both escorted to their home by the representatives of the Local Government Unit of Cagayan (LGU Cagayan) who provided the vehicle that transported them from the Tuguegarao airport.
The repatriation was funded by the Philippine government through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and was made possible through the concerted efforts of the Office of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, the Philippine Embassy in Rome, the Philippine Consulate General in Florence, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, OWWA, the DFA Consular Office in Tuguegarao, and LGU Tuguegarao and Cagayan. The Embassy also coordinated with the Social Services of Tuscany and the Prato immigration officials during the repatriation.
The Filipina national expressed her appreciation for the government’s assistance as she looks forward to her continued recovery in the company of her loved ones. END
