The Ambassadors of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) make a courtesy call on the Mayor Giovanni Arena of Viterbo during the ACR Working Mission to Viterbo on 05 November 2019.

06 November 2019, ROME - The Philippine Embassy in Rome organized and led the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) working mission to Viterbo on 05 November 2019. The Philippines currently chairs the ACR, which is composed of other ASEAN embassies in Rome, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco headed the delegation and paid a courtesy call on Mayor Giovanni Arena.

“The ACR’s visit to Viterbo aims to promote relations and cooperation between ASEAN and the city of Viterbo… The ACR is ready to partner and engage with the Viterbo local authorities and institutions for political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation,” Ambassador Nolasco said during the meeting with Mayor Arena.

Viterbo, an ancient city in Lazio region in Central Italy, is known for strong agriculture sector that produces high-quality wines and olive oils. It also hosts an important university that specializes in agriculture, the Università degli Studi della Tuscia. Viterbo is known as the “City of the Popes” as it used to be the residence of several popes in the 13th century.

The delegation also had meetings with Mr. Domenico Merlani, President of the Viterbo Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Francesco Monzillo, Secretary General of the Viterbo Chamber of Commerce, and Professor Stefano Ubertini, Rector of the Università degli Studi della Tuscia.

During the meeting with the Viterbo Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Nolasco said, “ASEAN is an economic powerhouse with a consumer base of almost 650 million people. We note that Viterbo has advance agricultural systems…we hope that we could find commonalities in supporting our agriculture sectors.”

The Chamber of Commerce of Viterbo also arranged a tour for the ASEAN ambassadors of the Rasena Olearia, an olive oil factory.

The ACR conducts regular working missions to various cities around Italy to engage local authorities and cultural and economic stakeholders, and promote ASEAN and ASEAN-Italy cooperation. END
