15 December 2013, Rome – The Filipino European Migrants International Chess Academy or FEMICA in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy held at the Embassy Social Hall in Rome on 15 December the “2nd Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. Invitational Cup— Open Rapid Chess Tournament”.

H.E. Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. led the ceremonial moves which marked the official opening of the tournament.  A total of 50 players – Filipinos, Italians, and children participated in the tournament.

In his message, Ambassador Reyes highlighted the academic and social benefits of chess to children as proven by many scientific studies and research.  He further encouraged all the youth and second-generation Filipinos as well as their parents to continue with this activity provided by the Philippine Embassy and FEMICA.

FEMICA President and International Chess Master Virgilio Vuelban also highlighted the academic and social benefits of chess to children as proven by many scientific studies and research.

Mr. Merol Delco won the Ambassador’s Cup, while Catreyell Dolor won the Cup’s Children’s Category. ###
