09 September 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Italy led the celebration of the ASEAN Family Day of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) on 07 September 2019 at Agriturismo Il Castoro in Rome.
The ASEAN Family Day is an event of the Committee where embassy personnel and their families get together to play friendly matches and share cuisines. The Philippine Embassy in Rome is ACR chair from July to December 2019.
More than 230 people participated in the event, coming from the six ASEAN embassies present in Italy – Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.
“ASEAN Family Day provides an opportunity for the personnel and families of ASEAN Embassies in Rome to know more about each other and strengthen our friendship, solidarity and goodwill,” said Philippine Ambassador to Italy, Domingo P. Nolasco in his welcome remarks.
The Ambassador added that the event is also an occasion to learn more about each ASEAN country's culture and traditions, reinforcing ASEAN's sense of identity.
“This close relationship between our countries and peoples is even more emphasized with the declaration of 2019 as the ASEAN Cultural Year. This year is about celebrating our diversity while promoting a greater sense of ASEAN identity,” Ambassador Nolasco underscored.
The event was filled with friendly matches among the embassies’ families, adult and children alike. The games include tug of war, dodgeball, fill the bucket race, hula hoop relay, balloon toss and darts.
As part of the cultural exchanges, the ASEAN embassies brought and shared traditional dishes such as Bakmi Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Shwe Taung with chicken and coconut cream, Ice Candy, Pad Thai, Somtam, and Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Chicken and Shrimp, enabling everyone to experience each other’s cuisine.
