Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco welcomes the guest to the screening of the film “Signal Rock” on 01 August 2019 at Cinelab in Isola Tiberina, during the 25th Edition of L’Isola del Cinema.

02 August 2019, ROME – Filipino film “Signal Rock” directed by Chito S. Roño was screened on 1 August 2019 at the 25th Edition of L’Isola del Cinema at Isola Tiberina, one of the most prominent annual summer events in Rome.

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco said during the event, “We are showing this film in Rome as part of the 100th anniversary of Philippine cinema.”

Philippine Embassy in Rome and Sentro Rizal Rome Chapter organized the screening with Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), as part of its Philippine Embassies Assistance Program.

“This is one of the ways not only to promote Philippine culture and excellence in Philippine cinema, but also to increase mutual understanding and people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Italy,” the Ambassador said.

Ambassador Nolasco noted that the movie “Signal Rock” is a story about migration - not about the ones that leave for abroad, but the ones that are left behind. “This is especially appropriate with many Filipinos residing and working in Italy,” he added.

“Signal Rock” was part of the Isola Mondo Series of the 25th L’Isola del Cinema. Isola Mondo, the international cultural window of the festival, is carried out in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutions. L’Isola del Cinema is held at the Tiber Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The event was well attended, filling the 75-seat Cinelab cinema of the film festival. About 70 people attended composed of the diplomatic corps, Italians, Filipino community, and expats. END
