ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) Ambassadors and the Director-General of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) Irene Khan discuss the programs of IDLO in the ASEAN region during the ACR Luncheon hosted by Philippine Ambassador Domingo P. Nolasco at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel in Rome on 18 July 2019.

18 July 2019 – Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco hosted an ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) Working Luncheon at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel in Rome with Director-General Irene Khan of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) as Guest of Honor.

Ambassadors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam attended the lunch. IDLO’s Strategic Communications Director, Mr. Raul Cordenillo and Government Relations Adviser, Ms. Francesca Jannotti Pecci, were also present.

Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the activities being conducted by the ACR to promote ASEAN in Italy. He conveyed that ACR recognizes the work of IDLO in promoting the rule of law noting that the organization has various initiatives in Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines, including programs on improving access to justice and enhancing capacity of prosecutors.

Director-General Khan gave an overview of the structure and the work of IDLO. She underscored that IDLO is the only intergovernmental organization dedicated to the rule of law and sustainable development.

The luncheon provided an opportunity for the ASEAN Ambassadors to learn more about the organization and to explore possible areas of collaboration.

The ACR Ambassadors Luncheon, held every month, invites officials from Italy and international organizations to exchange views and insights on issues that are of mutual interest to the member countries. END
