Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo Nolasco discusses inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Philippines and Italy with Deputy Salvatore Deidda, Member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies who is in-charge of the Bilateral Section of the Inter-parliamentary Union Group for the Philippines during a meeting at the Italian Chamber of Deputies on 09 July 2019.

 

09 July 2019, Rome – Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo Nolasco met with Deputy Salvatore Deidda, Member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies who is in-charge of the Bilateral Section of the Inter-parliamentary Union Group for the Philippines, to discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Philippines and Italy at the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

Ambassador Nolasco underscored the importance of establishing a mechanism for inter-parliamentary dialogue to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He mentioned that the meeting is very timely as the Philippines just recently concluded its mid-term elections and a new set of Philippine legislators will begin its mandate in July 2019.

Deputy Deidda conveyed his pleasure to represent the Philippines in the Italian inter-parliamentary union group as he likes the Filipino community in Italy. He mentioned that there are already fifteen (15) Italian parliamentarians who have joined the friendship group for the Philippines.

The Philippine Ambassador added that bilateral relations with Italy is strongly grounded on the over 160,000 Filipinos living and working in Italy. He shared that the Embassy is seeing a growing population of second and third generation of Filipino-Italians which could become a significant part of Italian society, in the long-term.

Noting that the Philippines and Italy share common values and religion, Deputy Deidda said that the Filipino community in the country is well-integrated in Italy.

Ambassador Nolasco expressed hope that the Philippines and Italy could broaden economic cooperation. He emphasized that the Philippine’s growing economy offers a lot of opportunities for trade and investment to Italian companies. He also took the opportunity to raise to the parliamentarian some concerns of the Filipinos in Italy.

The Italian parliamentarian conveyed his readiness to promote bilateral relations between the Philippines and Italy through inter-parliamentary dialogue.

After the meeting with Deputy Deidda, Ambassador Nolasco also called on Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies Fabio Rampelli.
