Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Adrian Bernie Candolada underscores the Philippine government’s commitment to protect the human rights of women and children and to address all forms of gender-based violence during the Forum on Violence Against Women (VAW) on 06 December 2018 at the Embassy’s Multi-purpose Hall.

11 December 2018, Rome – More than thirty (30) members of the Filipino community attended the Forum on Violence Against Women (VAW), conducted by the Philippine Embassy in Rome, on 06 December 2018 at the Chancery’s Multi-purpose Hall.

In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Adrian Bernie Candolada underscored the Philippine government’s commitment to protect the human rights of women and children and to address all forms of gender-based violence. He drew attention to the prevalence of violence against women especially violence committed by intimate partners. He also called on the members of the Filipino community to help raise public awareness of and share information on violence against women.

Dr. Cristiana Scoppa, Project Manager from D.i.RE (Donne in Rete Contro la Violenza or Women’s network against violence), shared information on violence against women including the Italian laws protecting women against VAW; the proper course of action in the occurrence of VAW in the homes and the workplace; and the services and facilities which can be availed of by victims of VAW.

The Embassy distributed brochures on R.A. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 to increase understanding on the Philippine law which aims to protect women and children from VAW.

The Forum on Violence Against Women was part of the Embassy’s initiatives in the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.
