PHILIPPINE POSTMASTER GENERAL VISITS ROME, JOINS PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN LAUNCHING THE COMMEMORATIVE STAMP ON 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHL-IT RELATIONS

On the occasion of the year-long celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Italy Diplomatic Relations which started in July 2012, the Philippine Embassy in Rome and the Philippine Postal Corporation (Phil Post) launched the Commemorative Stamp at a simple ceremony held on 03 April 2013 at the Headquarters of Poste Italiane.  The unveiling ceremony was led by H.E. Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. with the presence of Phil Post CEO and Postmaster General, Josefina M. Dela Cruz and CEO of Poste Italiane, Massimo Sarmi.

The commemorative stamp showcases the very best of the two countries’ historic and cultural cooperation: the Banaue Rice Terraces of the Philippines and the Cinque Terre of Italy.  The Official First Day Cover also features both countries national heroes: Jose Rizal and Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The event was attended by officials from the ASEAN Committee (Embassies) in Rome as well as officials from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other guests of the Philippine Embassy, including a descendant of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
