The Philippine Embassy in Rome reminds all Filipinos that, in accordance with the Philippine Passport Act of 1996, Philippine passports are the property of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, making the holder thereof a mere possessor who may not surrender the same to any person or entity other than to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Philippine passport therefore should not be used as guarantee or collateral for loans/obligations or surrendered to creditors or employers.

If a Philippine Passport is reported held as guarantee or collateral forloans/obligations, it shall be considered automatically cancelled upon notice given to the Embassy by the concerned passport holders.

PAALALA

Paalala sa lahat ng mga Pilipino, na ayon sa Philippine Passport Act of 1996, ang pasaporte ay pagmamay-ari ng Pamahalaan ng Republika ng Pilipinas at ang may hawak nito ay isa lamang "tagapangalaga" ng passport na hindi maaaring magpatago ng pasaporte niya sa ibang tao maliban sa kinatawan ng Pamahalaan ng Republika ng Pilipinas.

Ang pasaporte, samakatuwid, ay hindi maaaring gamitin bilang garantiya o "collateral" para sa mga utang/obligasyon sa mga creditors o employers.

Ang mga pasaporte na gagamitin bilang garantiya o "collateral" para sa mga utang/obligasyon ay ituturing na walang bisa matapos ipagbigay-alam sa Embahada ng Pilipinas.
